PlayStation Studios Officially Announces Mobile Division with Savage Game Studios Acquisition

PlayStation Studios head, Hermen Hulst announced in a blog post it’s expanding even more into the mobile gaming market with the acquisition of German mobile developer, Savage Games Studios which will be operating separately from PlayStation’s console studios under the newly formed PlayStation Studios Mobile Division. Savage Games Studios is set to create “innovative, on-the-go experiences” based on new and already existing PlayStation franchises.

Savage Game Studios is a recently formed mobile developer that was founded in the early months of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in June 2020 by co-founders Michail Katkoff, Nadjim Adjir and Michael McManus. In a blog post, Katkoff who is the developer’s CEO said that Savage Games Studios “was born of our many years of mobile game development experience spanning a number of massively successful global intellectual property.” The goal and the core beliefs of the studios were to make a creative space where experimentation and taking risks weren’t pushed back but rather were eagerly embraced.

“So why then,” you may be thinking to yourself, “would you join PlayStation Studios?” We made this deal because we believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances. All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalogue of intellectual property and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide… The harder question to answer would be “why not?” Savage Game Studios CEO and co-founder Michail Katkoff said in a PlayStation Blog post.

To not make PlayStation fans worry, Hulst said that their refreshed focus on mobile gaming will not diminish their commitment to their console user base and to creating single-player, narrative-driven experiences they are known for. With God of War: Ragnarok and PlayStation VR2 just around the corner, PlayStation Studios is promising to deliver some truly unique upcoming experiences on PlayStation consoles.
