PlayStation Officially Announces PS VR2 PC Adaptor, Launching on August 7

Owners of the second generation PSVR headset will be able to Play games like Half-Life Alyx, Fallout 4 VR, War Thunder, and more

Following last week’s news of certification of a PS VR2 PC adaptor, PlayStation has officially announced the adaptor in a blog post and will launch on August 7th at a $59.99 USD price point.

PlayStation’s second-generation VR headset owners, alongside the PC adaptor, will allow players to go beyond Sony’s PSVR2 library as the device supports Steam VR titles. This means you can play VR games not part of PlayStation’s ecosystem, which includes big titles like Half-Life: Alyx, one game that every VR player should play. Anyone looking to pick up the adaptor this August should know ahead of time that you will need to free up a display port to plug in the adaptor to play your Steam games, so if needed, I guess you should make adjustments to your monitor setup until then.

“PSVR2 was designed from the ground up specifically for PS5 — so you’ll notice that some key features, like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble), are [unavailable] when playing on PC. However, other high-fidelity and sensory immersion features of PS VR2 are supported, including 4K visuals (2000 x 2040 per eye), 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, and see-through view, as well as foveated rendering (without eye tracking) and 3D Audio in supported games,” Sony Interactive Entertainment principal product manager, Yasuo Takahashi said in a blog post this morning.

Setting up the PSVR2 headset on a PC will require players to plug the display port into the adaptor and the USB=A connection into the PC. Afterward, plug the USB-C connection on the PSVR2 into the adaptor. When all that is done, download the PlayStation VR2 App and the SteamVR App from Steam, and you’ll be able to set up the PlayStation headset on your PC and customize your settings. If you have a manageable PC gaming rig, you should be fine, but just in case, Sony has also released the minimum PC specs required to use the PSVR2 headset below.
