To hell with the Metaverse I say, bring back PlayStation Home.
Having been a huge supporter of Sony’s precursor to the Metaverse, PlayStation Home shuttered in 2015 and the brand has been all the worse for it. Sure, it had issues but it was a lot of fun being able to log in and walk around shopping malls, E3 booths, and apartments (I owned the Ghostbusters firehouse) while being able to hang out with people from around the world.
For several years now, I’ve wondered how and when Sony would revive PlayStation Home given they renewed the trademark earlier this year. On one front, Sony has the trademark, on the other front, a non-profit has been working on reviving the virtual world.
Destination Home has been working on reviving PlayStation Home over the last several years. Right now, if you own a modded PlayStation 3 console you can download a version that works offline. You require a modded console because the project works with PlayStation Online Network Emulated, a fan-driven group that will bring PlayStation Home back online. The group says both private and public lobbies will be available by the end of this year.
If you want to help out you can donate your cache to the project. This is essential data your console stores on PlayStation Home including Spaces, furniture, and clothing.
