PlayStation Announces Increased Supply of PS5 Consoles

Just over two years ago, the PlayStation 5 launched and has since been a sales juggernaut. The only thing that held the console back up until now was a shortage issue, one that was exacerbated by the global pandemic we’re in the midst of.

Kicking off 2023 with a new marketing initiative, the Live from PS5 spot signals a shift for the Japanese company. With supply chain issues no longer as dire, Sony is ready to get more consoles into the hands of players.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Isabelle Tomatis, VP, Brand, Hardware and Peripherals, SIE, says “To all our fans: thank you for your patience as we navigated unprecedented demand for the PS5 console amid global challenges.” Since its launch in November 2020, eager customers hoping to find a PlayStation 5 in brick-and-mortar stores and online have found it difficult. The company has dealt with “unprecedented demand” since its launch. However, Sony has been making efforts to increase its supply.

While this is definitely a campaign marketed to incite excitement, the video above includes a brief look at this year’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with both Spider-Man and Miles Morales’ Spider-Man tackling an enemy in New York City.

Some of the marketing is fun, like the massive Leviathan Axe in London:

What caught my attention is the woman adventurer exploring a cave in the ad. Whether or not it’s hinting at a new Uncharted title is up for debate but Naughty Dog or a Sony studio should not leave the legacy of the brand to the wayside for too long.

In related news, Sony’s first premium controller, the DualSense Edge, launched last week and it is a wonderful controller that would benefit a lot of players.
