UPDATE: It seems like Ubisoft has removed any mention of backwards compatibility from their website. We will update when we hear more.
According to a support page on Ubisoft, PlayStation 5 is going to support only the PlayStation 4 with its compatibility functionality. This news is a huge bummer for many as full compatibility was a massive selling point for many, myself included.
Sony has been mum on the subject so far, and we know PlayStation 4 titles would work. However, legacy consoles including PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 are not included in the program. PlayStation 5 will support “the overwhelming majority” of PlayStation 4 titles.
The thing is, Sony only ever spoke about getting PlayStation 4 titles to work on PlayStation 5. On the support page from Ubisoft, it is mentioned that “Backwards compatibility will be available for supported PlayStation 4 titles, but will not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation games,” meanwhile going to any of the equivalent pages of other countries has nothing on the issue.
