At CES, Sony revealed the PlayStation 5 had sold 30 million units, as of December 2022. This number is up from the 20 million units reported in June 2022.
Also confirmed today: December was the biggest month ever for PS5 console sales, bringing the total to more than 30 million units sold worldwide.

While the sales milestone is impressive, the pandemic we’ve faced the last two years was a massive hurdle Sony (and many other companies) faced when trying to put products on shelves. At CES, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan also mentioned that the shortage of PS5 units was likely over, too.
In October 2022, Hiroki Totoki, the CFO at Sony, said they had planned to sell over 100 million PS5s over the lifespan of the console. While there is still a long road ahead, it seems likely we’ll see that target be met within the next five years if pacing continues at its current pace.
