Atlus has revealed several key details regarding Persona 5 Tactica, which is set to launch this November.
While we’ve seen the series as a turn-based entry with Persona 5 Royal, and an action RPG in Persona 5 Strikers, the upcoming Tactica transforms into a strategy game featuring the Phantom Thieves. Instead of invading the Metaverse, Atlus is now revealing Kingdoms, a new area surrounded by Legionnaires.
Their leader, Marie, she’s brainwashed the Phantom Thieves, except Joker and Morgana. Together, the duo are saved by Erina, leader of the Rebel Corps, letting them know the Metaverse is now The Kingdoms. After evading pursuit from Marie’s troops, our heroes arrive at the Rebel Corps hideout to find it’s an identical version of Leblanc.
Your goal is to discover the truth behind the Kingdoms and find a way to save everyone from Marie’s control—additionally, her master plan is to host the perfect wedding within her Kingdom.
With the help of the Rebel Corps, Joker and Morgana set out to save the other Phantom Thieves but are soon misled to a jail cell where they encounter Toshiro Kasukabe, a former politician who has gone missing from the real world. Kasukabe claims he does not remember how we ended up in the Kingdoms.
The gameplay in Persona 5 Tactica is a bit different from previous games. Instead of traditional turn-based combat, you’re actively taking cover from attacks while waiting for your turn to roll around. Additionally, not being hidden behind cover may lead to the enemy hitting you with One More attack, so be wary of positioning.
Also, elemental weaknesses play a significant role here as using the fire skill Agi leaves enemies damaged when they end their turn. Zio shocks enemies and leaves them unable to move for one turn. Different ailments create different scenarios in battle, so be sure to experiment.
Your party also has access to Unique Skills, denoted by a gauge at the bottom of the screen, filling as you take a hit or deal damage. As the meter fills, you can eventually leave a character-specific move made available from a Skill Tree.
Each member of the Phantom Thieves has a skill tree available to them, and along with it, several skills help the team grow by winning battles or listing events in-game.
Lastly, Talk Events occur within the Hideout, and these conversations are there to engage you to pull you into the story and often feature discissions between characters.
Persona 5 Tactica launches November 17, 2023, on Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC.
