Months of rumours swirling indicate a Persona 3 Reload-like remake of Persona 4 is imminent. Today, a post from voice actor Yuri Lowenthal indicates the rumours may be true.
On Bluesky, the renowned voice actor, who has worked on hundreds of projects over the years, spoke a bit bluntly about Persona 4, saying that he won’t be returning for the Persona 4 remake.
The standout thing about this post is that Lowenthal confirms he received a “no” from Atlus, indicating that he would not be returning to voice Yosuke Hanamura, one of the prominent cast members in Persona 4. “And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back,” said Lowenthal.
Set in the small town of Inaba, a group of teens become involved in a case of mysterious murders under rather bizarre circumstances. You, as a person from the big city (canonically Yu Narukami, but otherwise you can give yourself any name you want), come to this place because of your year-long studies at the Yasogami High School, but very quickly become the leader of a group of your classmates personally involved in the case. Your goal is nothing less than to get to the root of the matter and uncover the real culprit before he can escort anyone else out of the world.
It appears that the remake project is proceeding without input from Lowenthal. We’ll report back if we hear more.
