The Polish developer behind Outriders is expanding into Canada’s game industry as the company has officially announced its Montréal studio, People Can Fly Montréal which has been open since last year but the news officially went public after the company promoted on LinkedIn that it is hiring for a variety of roles at its new studio.
“We launched our Montreal start-up studio last year as a part of PCF’s North American team, that’s working on People Can Fly’s new project led by David Grijns and Roland Lesterlin from our New York office. Montreal’s amazing atmosphere and well-seasoned game dev industry make this project extremely exciting for us. We believe that PCF Montreal will soon play a major role in our studios’ portfolio,” People Can Fly wrote on LinkedIn.
The interesting aspect we got out of the news is the developer’s upcoming AAA North American project that the Canadian studio is playing a “major role” on which is described as a “highly ambitious, groundbreaking action-adventure title.” The most notable info is that Roland Lesterlin is co-leading the project who previously directed Just Cause 3, while we got no official confirmation on what exactly the game is, we might be able to relate it to previous reports.
Currently, we know that People Can Fly was hired by Microsoft to work on an unannounced title known as Project Maverick with the Xbox brand retaining the IP rights for the People Can Fly development project which reportedly has a budget of between $30 to 50 million. It’s very possible that the game Montréal Studio is working on and Project Maverick might be one and the same, but this is just speculation. Either way, hopefully, we’ll officially hear about what People Can Fly is cooking up in Canada in the near future
People Can Fly was founded back in 2002 and over the last two decades has created several titles including Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment, and Outriders. This new Montréal studio marks People Can Fly’s eighth overall studio with its others located in Newcastle, New York City, Chicago, and multiple locations in Poland – Warsaw, Rzeszów, Łódź, and Katowice.
