Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remaster Debuts at Nintendo Direct

The remaster of the beloved RPG is coming in 2024

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is returning on the Nintendo Switch in 2024, as seen in today’s Nintendo Direct. The Gamecube RPG is getting an HD coat of paint with enhanced graphics.

The original came out in 2004 and is widely considered one of the best in the series. With the remaster, more people can jump into a beloved classic.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. The game was released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2004. Players control Mario as he embarks on a quest to rescue Princess Peach and uncover the mystery of the fabled Thousand-Year Door.

The story begins with Mario receiving a map from Princess Peach, leading him to Rogueport. He learns that Princess Peach has been kidnapped, and the map may hold the key to unlocking a legendary treasure hidden behind the Thousand-Year Door. Mario must collect Crystal Stars, powerful artifacts that grant him new abilities to progress.

Throughout the game, Mario forms alliances with a diverse group of partners, each with unique abilities, and battles various enemies and bosses. The game combines traditional RPG elements with a turn-based battle system where players time their attacks for extra damage.

As the story unfolds, Mario unravels a deeper plot involving an ancient evil, the X-Nauts, and a prophecy about the treasure behind the Thousand-Year Door. Ultimately, Mario must confront powerful adversaries and make choices that impact the game’s outcome.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is set to launch sometime in 2024.
