Overwatch 2 has been a free-to-play success for Blizzard and the Overwatch team. Since taking the free route with the sequel, the game has seen massive success when it comes to concurrent players and active users. One of the initial appeals for many players was the promise of a PvE and co-op experience with the growing roster of heroes. It’s been all quiet on the PvE front for a long time, but we may be closer to a public update according to this clip from the PlayOverwatch Twitch channel and stream.
Executive Producer of Overwatch 2 Jared Neuss was responding to a question in the chat saying the news will arrive soon but not “Blizzard soon.” For long-time Blizzard fans and gamers, this could be a welcome change. The company has been known for being quite hush-hush with its updates and news drops in the past. That’s changed slightly with the soon-to-be-released Diablo IV, but it’s still not clear what time of timeframe Nuess is referring to. In the response, he does call it “Jared soon.”
For those like myself who were extra excited about the PvE addition, it’s a bit of a relief. But do note that Nuess also said they are “planning” on when they will talk about it… so take that for what you will. It could mean a big update, or a nugget of one sometime in the next several weeks, or months.
