After 13 years, two console generations and a remaster, Okami is now a certified Platinum-title for Capcom!
Platinum, in this case, is any game that’s sold over a million copies. Okami hit that achievement as of September 2019 with the latest port dropping on Nintendo Switch. I’m happy that the title is still being talked about more than a decade later, and it’s nice to see the game pop up on current generation consoles, too. Even at launch, I remember how critically-acclaimed the game was for Clover and Capcom, but came at a time where people were transitioning to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Okami deserves a sequel, and if the recent video with PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya and industry darling Ikuma Nakamura is anything of note, we’ll get a sequel at some point.
In other Capcom news, we see Devil May Cry V has shipped roughly 2.7 million units, and Monster Hunter World is at 14.1 million units, with Resident Evil 2 Remake sitting at 4.7 million units as of September 30, 2019. I’d say Capcom is not only back, but having an excellent renaissance.
