Peter Parker and Miles Morales seem to have their work cut out for them this Fall when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to launch on PlayStation 5.
Today’s trailer shown during the PlayStation Showcase has a lot of details to unpack, including the introduction of the symbiote suit for Spider-Man. Kicking off the presentation today was a short trailer introducing Kraven the Hunter.
Kraven is looking for an equal, and he seems to come upon our favourite web-slinger in New York. Cut to six months later in-game, and Kraven and his armed forces, the Hunters, have arrived in the Big Apple to hunt for their prey.
Today’s demo kicks off at Connors’ home across the East River in Queens, one of the new playable and explorable boroughs introduced in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Immediately, the Black Suit is introduced, and Spider-Man is in no mood to quip. We see a bunch of new fighting moves, including a far more aggressive fighting style that utilizes the tendrils the symbiote provides to Peter.
Further into the trailer, Peter is stuck too far away from another reported incident, and so, at the press of a button, you can switch to Miles and play as him. We see both Spider-Men have web wings attached as part of their suits, making traversal faster than ever, and a new slingshot ability makes travelling across the boroughs even easier.
Miles’ section shown in the trailer is far more traditional as he engages and stealthily infiltrates a fish market on the lookout for the Lizard. With Kraven’s Hunters casing the building, you’ll make quick work of them with takedowns and other gadgets to prevent them from getting in your way.
With missing a beat, the two heroes join up and head out into the open water, where the Hunters are tracking Dr. Connors in his alternate form. We see a high-throttle action sequence filled with incredible moments, including a jetski chase, saving locals out for a quiet day of fishing, and an alley-oop moment to show teamwork between Peter and Miles.
Insomniac Games was mum on a firm release date and said they hope to share something concrete soon. As it stands, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is launching Fall 2023.
