Nintendo Reveals Pokémon Sword And Shield For Switch
During today’s Pokémon Direct, Nintendo revealed generation eight of the long-running Pocket Monster series. Set for release later in 2019, Pokémon Sword And Shield is the first mainline entry on a console and features fully three-dimensional graphics, as well as entirely new monsters.
Set in the new Galar region (which has a clear influence from the UK) Pokémon Sword And Shield feature three new starter Pokémon – Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble.
Also, Director Shigeru Ohmori describes Grookey as mischievous, Scorbunny as energetic, and Sobble as timid.
Galar is certainly beautiful in its own right and as described in today’s Direct:
“Galar is an expansive region with diverse environments — an idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forest, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and the pokémon who live there work together closely to develop the industries in the region. Fans will have the opportunity to visit various gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become champion.”
Nintendo first revealed a mainline Pokémon entry for the Nintendo Switch at E3 2017, and since subsequently released Pokémon Let’s Go in the meantime. The last generation of Pocket Monsters began on the Nintendo 3DS with Pokémon Sun and Moon.
