Rumours have swirled like clockwork this week, with many hoping for a hint about what the next console from Nintendo might entail. However, it does not seem likely to see a new console this week. Instead, the latest Direct falls on the eve of the Tokyo Game Show, from September 21 through September 24.
Last month, Eurogamer mentioned the Switch successor was shown behind closed doors at Gamescom, where Nintendo revealed tech demos running on new hardware to developers. This demo included a roided-out version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
With the Switch still selling well and having a great year in sales across the board, Nintendo can ride the high for at least several months. Titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold well over 18 million copies, and fan-favourite Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars Remake arrives this Fall.
