Nintendo and Tag Heuer’s Collaboration Smartwatch Costs A Lot Of Gold Coins

Luxury brand Tag Heuer is working with Nintendo on a themed smartwatch that goes on sale this week and retails for $2150 USD or roughly $2700 CAD. You better start saving those gold coins because it’s going to cost you a lot of them to own one of these rare watches.

Tag Heuer has described the Connected watch as having several “gamification rewards systems,” ranging from Mario saying hello to themed Mushroom Kingdom animations displaying on the face while you move about, and picks up as you become more active. You’ll unlock rewards when hitting your daily target — 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% – with different animations playing out on the dial. You can see them below in the image which shows the poses Mario will make when you stay active with him.

“The inspiration for this collaboration came from our desire to gamify and bring excitement to our new wellness application and Super Mario instantly came to our minds,” says Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer. “And it’s not just his international and intergenerational appeal that clinched it. Mario is the ultimate super-active character whose perseverance and tenacity get him out of every situation. The new hero watch face gives life to this iconic character and encourages users to team up with Mario to get out there and be more active? The TAG Heuer Connected is the perfect companion for connected life and every active person’s best friend. With this Super Mario limited-edition smartwatch, they can add a bit of fun and originality to their activities and wellness.”
