If getting a long-awaited Ninja Gaiden 4 announcement wasn’t enough, Team Ninja had “one more thing” to show off with the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, the series’ first sequel recreated or PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Better yet Ninja Gaiden 2 Black got the shadow drop treatment and is available to download on Game Pass.
The “Black” naming scheme is Team Ninja’s way of telling players that this is the best way to play Ninja Gaiden 2. The first Ninja Gaiden Black was released in 2005 and was a reworked version of the original alongside two DLC packs. Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is getting a similar treatment but is an actual full-blown remake redeveloped in Unreal Engine 5 with the gore and violence that players can reexperience in the 2025 release,
The game will feature three new playable characters – Rachel, Moiji, and Ayane from the game’s Sigma 2009 release on PS3 which was featured in the latest Master collection release. Additionally, the now-available remake will include the “Hero Play Style,” a beginner mode described as providing “automatic support in the most difficult situations, making the notoriously challenging title more accessible for those who may not be so confident in their action skills.
“The beautiful and bloody remaster utilizes Unreal Engine 5 to significantly enhance the graphic expression, elevating everything from character visuals to environmental backgrounds. In fact, the stages, characters, effects, and lighting have all been completely redesigned and remastered to fully immerse gamers into the story’s dark ninja world,” a description of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black details.
“Gore elements such as dismemberment and blood have also been remastered to enhance the action experience. The high-speed, violent fights play out in brilliant brutality, utilizing a variety of weapons and techniques including Japanese swords, shurikens, Kusari-gamas, and tonfas. Meanwhile, those looking for a more toned-down experience can simply toggle the dismemberment feature on and off in the Options menu.”
