Next Level Games Founder Announces Retirement

Having helped deliver some of the best Nintendo games over the last two decades, Next Level Games founder Douglas Tronsgard has announced his retirement. Tronsgard has served as CEO from the studio’s earliest days up until the studio’s acquisition in January 2021.

Per VGC, the news was posted to LinkedIn. “After over 20 years in the video game industry, I am happy to announce my retirement. I wanted to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped me on my journey to get here. A special thank you to Nintendo for believing in me and Next Level Games. It’s truly been my honour to be a part of NLG’s incredible history.”

“I look forward to a new chapter in my life that should involve lots of travelling with my wife.”

Next Level Games has worked on several Nintendo properties over the last 20 years, including Mario Strikers Charged, Punch Out!!, Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and Luigi’s Mansion 3. The studio’s next project is Mario Strikers: Battle League, which is set to launch later this year.
