Battlefield 2042

A Narrative-Focused Battlefield Game is being Developed by EA’s Newest Studio, Ridgeline Games

Led by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto

Back in October, Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto would be spearheading a new game studio for EA based in the Seattle Area, now EA has announced in a press release that the studio will officially be called Ridgeline Games. Alongside the name reveal, the publisher also announced the developer’s first project they are developing which is an unannounced narrative-focused campaign game set in the Battlefield universe.

“It is a great honour to have the opportunity to collaborate with DICE and Ripple Effect and lead the charge on expanding the narrative, storytelling and character development opportunities in the Battlefield series,” Ridgeline Games head and game director, Marcus Lehto said in a press release.

EA says the focus of Ridgeline Games is to build “a diverse studio where everyone’s voice is valued and where creating a strong work-life balance is a priority.” It’s still early days but the reveal is in line with the publisher’s want to build out the franchise’s “connected universe” following the fallout of not so well received Battlefield 2042. It sounds more like the publisher is going in a different direction in the series with this narrative approach. That’s not to say it’s shying away from what the series is known for in the multiplayer realm, but we still don’t know what’s next for DICE in this newer universe approach to Battlefield.

“We’re continuing to invest in the future of the franchise by bringing in new talent and perspectives. With Marcus and his team at Ridgeline Games joining the world-class global team we have already in place, Battlefield is in the strongest position to succeed,” Respawn founder and Battlefield franchise head, Vince Zampella said in a press release.
