Muramasa: Revenant Blades

Muramasa: Revenant Blades Announced

Vanillaware, with XSEED and Marvelous USA are bringing back a series stuck on old hardware with the reveal of Muramasa: Revenant Blades.

The Vanillaware classic is coming to consoles and PC, a first for the developer, as Muramasa receives a new localization in multiple languages alongside a full English voiceover. Originally released for the Wii in 2009 and PlayStation Vita in 2013, Muramasa has been stuck there ever since.

Now, players can experience Muramasa: Revenant Blades to explore the stories of the original protagonists Momohime and Kisuke, alongside Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki, who all appeared in the PlayStation Vita port. The updated version includes 4K visuals, along with the ability to play as the six characters in any order.

Set in Japan, the game centres on a conflict around the ownership of powerful samurai swords forged by the legendary Senji Muramasa. The swords grant their owners powers at the cost of driving them mad and making them thirst for blood. Many factions battle it out to own the mythical weapons, and demons and spirits feed off the turmoil.

A Limited Edition will also be available for pre-order for $89.99 /$125.99 CAD and $99.99/$139.99 CAD, respectively, containing a copy of the game, a collectible art book filled with Vanillaware’s gorgeous artwork, a limited CD soundtrack featuring select tracks from the score composed by the renowned Basiscape, and a 10”x14” byōbu folding screen featuring even more stunning Vanillaware visuals.

Muramasa: Revenant Blades launches for PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, and PC in 2027.
