MultiVersus Will Return On May 28

After launching last year to positive reception and disappearing months later, WB Games’ MultiVersus finally returns to console and PC on May 28. It should be noted that last year was an open beta test that ran for MultiVersus from July 26, 2022, to June 25, 2023.

MultiVersus is expected to launch with a new PVE mode, an expanded roster of heroes and personalities, and additional stages based on reimagined universes and environments. The game will also feature improved visuals and online play via rollback netcode.

Player First Games’ MultiVersus includes various franchises owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, and Black Adam (DC); Shaggy and Velma (Scooby-Doo); Bugs Bunny, Tasmanian Devil a.k.a. Taz, and Marvin the Martian (Looney Tunes); Arya Stark (Game of Thrones); Tom & Jerry (Tom and Jerry); Finn the Human and Jake the Dog (Adventure Time); Steven Universe and Garnet (Steven Universe); Iron Giant (The Iron Giant), LeBron James (Space Jam: A New Legacy); Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith (Rick and Morty); Gizmo and Stripe (Gremlins); and Reindog.

“We’ve been working hard on a variety of changes and updates to deliver an improved gameplay experience,” announces Player First Games co-founder Tony Huynh today. “A core aspect of Multiversus is our wealth of iconic characters in the game, with fun-filled competitions set against the backdrop of reimagined universes and environments. So I’m happy to say we’ll be adding some really exciting brand new personalities to the roster, along with more stages from worlds we have yet to explore.”

MultiVersus is moving to Unreal Engine 5 to help improve visuals and character lighting. The studio rebuilt the game with rollback netcode in mind and that should allow players to hit opponents with “pinpoint” accuracy.

Huynh also revealed a new player vs environment mode is in the works to allow players to experience something different than competitive modes.
