MultiVersus Open Beta Closing Up Shop on June 25th To Prepare For Full Launch In Early 2024

Even though players got their first taste of MultiVersus last year that you’d forget that the game was released in open beta and never got an actual full release. That all changed as Warner Bros. and developer, Player First Games announced that the beta version will be going offline on June 25th as the team prepares for MultiVersus‘ full release sometime in early 2024.

“Our Open Beta has been an important learning opportunity for us and a stepping stone to the next phase of MultiVersus. We know there’s still a lot of work to do. As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated net code and more matchmaking improvements,” Player First Games co-founder and game director, Tony Huyuh said in a post on MultiVersus‘s website.

To get ready for the June date, Warner Bros. will remove MultiVersus from digital storefronts the game is available and be unavailable to download starting on April 4th. For anyone who decides to keep MultiVersus on their system after the June date, the game’s online modes won’t be playable but offline features like local matches and the game’s training room will still be playable in this version of MultiVersus. The news overall kinda comes as a surprise as some assumed the game would transition to a full release under the same game as a part of an update kind of like Early Access games but guess that isn’t in the cards.

“All progress and previously earned or purchased content will carry over when MultiVersus returns in early 2024, This includes unused Gleamium, Battle Pass tokens, character tickets and any other in-game items – all content will carry over to the game next year. This announcement does not change any current refund policies or terms offered by the storefront(s) from which Founder’s Packs or Gleamium bundles were purchased,” Warner Bros said in a FAQ section of the announcement.

Players finding out about the news are requesting refunds in a tweet of the announcement but In a kind of scumming move, following the open beta closure refunds for previously purchased content will not be available.

For the next week at least, the MultiVersus open beta will be available to download on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series digital storefronts.
