Well, no one probably had this on their SDCC bingo card but at the Comic-con MultiVersus developer, Player First Game announced the next batch of characters it’s adding to the game and the eye-popping headline character is real-life basketball player, Lebron James who will be a part of the game’s upcoming open beta.
I mean the choice isn’t too crazy as James was in last year’s Space Jam: A New Legacy, so as far as property synergy for the Warner Bros. Super Mash Bros. inspired game it makes some sense. However, James won’t be voicing his MultiVersus counterpart and will instead be voiced by John Bentley who might be better known for playing Barrett in Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Also being added to the game which thankfully makes more sense are Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith from Rick and Morty. They will be both separate characters that players can choose from in the character select screen. In battle, Rick can use his portal gun to summon Meeseeks, meanwhile, Morty can throw projectiles and use counter moves in battle. Both characters will be available in the game’s first season which kicks off on August 9th, Morty will be available at the start while the release of Rick is currently unknown but we know he is set to arrive.
Other characters in Muliversus’ ever-expanding roster include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Bugs Bunny, the Tasmanian Devil, Shaggy, Tom and Jerry, Adventure Time‘s Finn and Jake the Dog, Garnet from Steven Universe, Arya Stark, Iron Giant, and more.
MultiVersus is set to launch in open beta for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on July 26th which is set to include cross-play support, rollback netcode, and content-filled seasons.
