Mortal Kombat 11 Reveal Day

Holy crap. Mortal Kombat 11 brought out all the stops today at the world reveal. Taking place in Los Angeles, NetherRealm Studio’s latest game was shown off for attending press and I’m confident enough that it did not disappoint those who showed up. Let’s break down what we saw!

First and foremost, Ronda Rousey is voicing Sonya Blade. The rumour was indeed true and we got confirmation today via reveal video and her attendance. Rousey admits she’s a fan of the series and got her first taste as a child when one of her mother’s student gave her the controller and ever since then she’s been into the series.

NetherRealm Studio’s also revealed an official story prologue where Raiden and Shinook have a heart to heart about the future of Earth Realm. Then we get a glimpse of the new female antagonist by the name of Kronika. She has the ability to manipulate time so I’m curious to see what her role is in all of this. Clearly, she has it out for Raiden as he has messed up timelines in the past.

We got a good glimpse at character customization, too. If you loved what Injustice 2, then this is right up your alley. You can customize your character in a variety of different weapons, costumes and skins. I was a huge fan of this previously, so seeing the studio double down here is really exciting for me.

There was also a fatalities trailer and by the looks of it, somehow they are even more violent than before. Seriously, who thinks of these?

Then, there was a reveal of Geras, a new kombatant. Joining him is Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Baraka, Raiden, and Skarlet. Geras is certainly enticing and I’m eager to test him out when the game launches.

Also, there are new mechanics included. There are two meters at the bottom of the screen for each player. One meter is for attacks and the other is for defence. From what I saw, these are akin to the super moves found in Injustice 2. They won’t kill your opponent but they will definitely mess them up!

Mortal Kombat 11 launches on April 21 for Xbox One, Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
