Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

Modern Warfare 3’s Big Additions Announced at Call of Duty: NEXT

Multiplayer, maps, weapons, zombies, and more!

Call of Duty: NEXT showcased a range of content this week, giving us a taste of the content drop coming when the game launches in November.

The development team had a ton of information and news to drop and we’ve narrowed down some of the biggest items for you all in one spot!

Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer

Not only is there a set of beta weekends this month, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is bringing back the re-imagined versions of classic maps for players to test out.

Five of the Modern Warfare 2 maps that were promised a couple of months ago will be available starting on the Closed Beta weekend from October 6th to 10th. This includes Favela, Estate, Skidrow, Rust, and Highrise.

Sledgehammer Games says this is just the beginning and there will be more big things coming when the game officially launches. This included the remaining classic maps, Ground War, and post-lunch plans of a new 6v6 mode.

There are also some tweaks and returning features the team was sure to point out:

  • Map voting
  • Classic mini map style
  • Dead Silence equip
  • Increased health to 150

There will also be a new way to outfit your operators with Aftermarket Parts. These will “introduce new progression paths for weapon leveling that offer truly unique weapon configurations for enhanced playstyle customization.”

Just make note though, these are only available to Modern Warfare 3 players who reach max level with that particular weapon.

The Zombies Rise Again

For the first time the Zombies mode is headed into the Modern Warfare version of Call of Duty. Two member of the Treyarch team joined the presentation to show off and talk about some of the features coming to the latest iteration of the ever-popular mode.

“Teams of players will cooperate in an open-world, pure player-versus-environment (PvE) setting featuring multiple squads who can work together.”

Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies maps are going to be bigger, and the teams say easier to navigate with many of them implementing vehicles. The extraction-based gameplay will feel familiar to anyone who played DMZ in last year’s game, with weapons and items coming back to base with you when you successfully get you boots off the ground.

Warzone

It’s time to drop in and survive! Warzone is back with a new map called Urzikstan. There will be 11 major points of interest. The team at Raven Software broke down all these areas earlier this month.

Warzone will also see some updated UI and quality of life elements that include:

  • Weapon and loot rarity changes
  • Dedicated ammo slots
  • Classic mini map similar to multiplayer
  • Updated contracts
  • New gas mask functionality

There will also be Warzone-exclusive perks coming to Modern Warfare 3:

  • Shrouded: Drops a Smoke Grenade automatically when downed.
  • Combat Scout: Pings an enemy when they are hit with a bullet.
  • Irradiated: Move faster and take less damage when in the Gas.
  • Resolute: Increases movement speed when damaged.

There’s even more available to dig into in the COD Blog, including more on Warzone Mobile which will include maps of Verdansk and Rebirth Island.
