Assemble Entertainment and developer Little Knight Games are working on Mira and the Legend of the Djinns, a new Metroidvania title that’s coming to Steam.
Immediately after watching the developer commentary trailer linked above, the Moroccan culture’s influence should be a lot more noticeable.
Mira and the Legend of the Djinn is also Little Knight Games’ first title with seven people around the world working on the project. The idea was a challenge to the team because they wanted to see how well they could adapt Moroccan folklore to the medium.
“We’ve thoughtfully crafted Mira’s narrative to accurately capture the spirit of Moroccan folklore while considering cultural and religious sensitivities. What resulted is a fine-tuned story world inspired by magical realms, Moroccan culture influences, and authentic folklore that is both new and recognizable,” said Rachid Hassani, Lead Programmer, at Little Knight Games. “Even down to the sound design, our team used authentic Moroccan-Amazigh music and melded it with high fantasy orchestral tunes to make something completely new and enchanting.”
The trailer mentions the Boukhencha, a strange man with candy used to lure kids. So as Yuba, a hunter who bonds with Mira the Djinn, the two set out to recover Mira’s memories.
