Microsoft Cuts 10,000 Jobs Across Company

As rumoured, Microsoft has cut 10,000 jobs across the entire company. The move was made to ensure the future of the company.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella published a message, saying that “These decisions are difficult but necessary,” giving Microsoft the ability to brace for an economic downturn. With countries facing recession and the average user doing more online with less, this was a decision that Microsoft says was necessary.

“They are especially difficult because they impact people and people’s lives – our colleagues and friends,” continues Nadella. This will affect certain areas while the company will “continue to hire in key strategic areas.”

It wasn’t made clear which departments across Microsoft were affected. Of the 10,000 jobs cut, this represents less than 5 percent of Microsoft’s workforce.  Those affected will have until the end of FY23 Q3, or the end of March.

“As a company, our success must be aligned to the world’s success. That means every one of us and every team across the company must raise the bar and perform better than the competition to deliver meaningful innovation that customers, communities, and countries can truly benefit from.”
