Video Game Releases Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Sold 2.5 Million Copies On PS5 In The First 24 Hours

Earning the Title of "Fastest selling Playstation Studio game in Playstation's history"

With the weekend over, we got sales data for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with PlayStation revealing on Twitter that Sony’s most recent first-party PlayStation exclusive sold 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours after the title officially went on sale.

Marvel’s Spider-Man‘s original release in 2018, nearly five years after the PS4’s launch, sold 3.3 million copies. We don’t have an exact apples-to-apples comparison as the data of the released PS4 title initially included three days of data. In contrast, we only have the first day of data for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 news. Even with that said and fewer available PS5 consoles compared to the PS4 at the time, PlayStation has stated the PS5 exclusive is the “Fastest selling PlayStation Studio game in PlayStation history.”

Comparably, last year’s God of War Ragnarök sold 5.1 million units in its first week, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is likely to hit that, if not surpass that number.

This is a major win for Sony, with the game set to sell more this holiday season with restocks of the game’s console bundles assumedly becoming more available in the future. From here hopefully, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s sales will maintain as it tries to surpass Marvel’s Spider-Man; Miles Morales‘ almost two-month 4.4 million figure across PS4 and PS5 consoles. We got our chance to review the true number sequel of Insomniac’s Spider-man series, and we loved it.

“Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 feels natural, which is not always easy to do with a spiritual second game. When standing next to Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles MoralesMarvel’s Spider-Man 2 stands and points at the other two games, looking the same but better. I have no trouble in saying that it justifies its existence,” Luke Williams said in our Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review.

“Be Greater Together” touches every part of this original adventure and lends an easygoing and natural experience when it gets over the few stumbles of pacing and trying to pack in various iconic characters with individual stories. The story is also a three-act saga that can take a while to get swinging. But I can’t give enough praise for its final act.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently available exclusively on PS5.
