Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Features A New Way To Play

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is making it’s way into homes later this year and for the first time in ages, I’m excited to dive into the series. Out on November 5, the latest installment features both Nintendo and Sega mascots competing against each other various competitions.

On the Nintendo Switch, the game adds 2D sprites to the mix and you can face off against each other with familiar sprites! In 10 different events you’re able to use those sprites:

  • 100m
  • 10m Platform (Diving)
  • 400m Hurdles
  • Gymnastics – Vault
  • Judo
  • Kayak Single (K-1) 1000m
  • Long Jump
  • Marathon
  • Shooting – Trap
  • Volleyball

Seeing 8-bit Mario characters versus 16-bit Sonic isn’t something I expected to see in 2019, but hey, we’re in an age where both Nintendo and Microsoft are working together. Seeing these sprites together put this game squarely on my radar.
