This…. this was a baffling headline to write.
We should all know by now that whatever we expect Sega’s Yakuza series to do, this long-running brawler will outdo itself in terms of the unexpected.
Today’s Dondoko Island reveal trailer as part of Xbox’s Partner Preview showed that series protagonist Ichiban Kasuga is off on an island adventure of resort building in a city-builder style, leaning heavily upon Animal Crossing vibes!
Now, it is important to first point out that there’s an actual Yakuza game present in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth that takes Kasuga to Hawaii — where he is conned while searching for his mother, arrested, and rescued by series standard Kazuma Kiryu.
Dondoko Island is a new offering unlocked in Chapter 6 as part of a side story.
Sega has always excelled at filling the Yakuza games with strange and fantastic mini-games, and the city-builder/beat ’em-up elements of Dondoko Island” appear to be right at home.
At their speed and discretion, players can nip away to the island to build furniture, their town and house; cater to tourists and locals; and battle with thugs and wildlife.
Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth sails onto Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on January 26th, 2024.
