Level Up Showcase makes a return for its 7th year and gives gamers a chance to see innovative projects made by local student talent. The show will highlight some of the most talented student developers in Ontario and give attendees a chance to test out their latest projects.
The showcase will take over the Design Exchange in Toronto on April 5th, 2017 and welcomes the public to play games that use the latest technology like motion sense, VR and more. This year Level Up brings together over fourteen different post-secondary schools across Ontario; including co-host schools Algonquin College, University of Toronto and OCAD University. Also partnering up with these schools as sponsors are some of the local leaders in the industry including Ubisoft Toronto, Unity and VR Headspace, Uken Games and more.
Last year Level Up attracted over 2000 guest to celebrate the games and concepts future developers are creating. Originally the showcase was designed to provide an opportunity for Ontario post-secondary game design students to network with future employers. Over the years the showcase grew to be a main event for industry, as it now offers recruitment opportunities and education about the latest technologies and techniques. Level Up has upped the lives of many alumni of the showcase with some having opened up their own indie studios or even working for top studios. Also some previous participants’ games have commercially released and even were nominated for international awards – like Runbow (2015) 13AM Games and Pitfall Planet (2016) Bonfire Games.
