Kena: Scars of Kosmora

Kena: Scars of Kosmora Delayed to 2027

When Kena: Scars of Kosmora was revealed in February for 2026, it looked like we would get to play the sequel this year. Well, things have changed as developer Ember Labs’ COO, Josh Grier and the game writer, Thomas Varga have revealed in a PlayStation Blog post that Kena: Scars of Kosmora has been delayed to 2027.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora’s initial announcement was not just the first time we learned about the game; before today’s news, it was also the last time as well, so the game being delayed to next year wasn’t that shocking to hear. As for the reason, Grier and Varga say in order to exceed Kena: Bridge of Spirits on a much bigger scale, the team needs a bit more time to polish the game’s experience and deliver on the goal of surpassing the first game.

It’s an update on when the game is coming, but we also got a story overview alongside two short clips captured on PS5 Pro and concept art. Kena, as a Spirit Guide, has her fair share of adventures as she helps spirits of the dead by fighting the very corruption stopping them from moving on to their next life.

The new story details note that, despite what Kena has done, her progress has hit the limits of what she can actually do. The sequel opens with Kena and her childhood friend Orfio as they venture to the titular island of Kosmora, hoping Kena will discover more about her past and future as a Spirit Guide.

“The ancient Spirit Guides of Kosmora developed their own unique approach involving the four elements and Alchemystic Temples. Four interconnected cultures once thrived across Kosmora, each with a guiding Element that fueled its society – before a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of them. Since that time, the spiritual symbolism of the elements has faded into Kosmora’s distant past, The guiding elements still play a large role in how each surviving culture lives, but the longer that ancient wisdom remains buried, danger grows,” Ember Labs details in a post.

“Kosmora’s complex Spirit Guide temples are a big part of the game. These dungeon experiences will challenge players’ skills and pay off with transformative rewards that propel Kena’s adventure. But Kosmora isn’t only about the past. The island is home to multiple living cultures with their own histories, values, and struggles. Kena’s mission to uncover how Kosmora’s past collides with characters in each region, requiring her to apply her experience and adapt to evolving situations and new personalities.”

Kosmora looks to be a much bigger area to explore than what players got in Kena: Bridge of Spirits and to help, the developer is giving players a new animal companion in the form of crystalline canine companion that Kena can mount on to make travelling much easier than on foot. The ancient spirit holds the answer to the origin of Kosmora and joins our hero as welcomed addition that will also help our hero in gameplay during combat encounters while solving Alchemystic puzzles along the way and healing “Kena’s scars, as well as the scars that cut right to the root of Kosmora.”

When Kena: Scars of Kosmora launches next year, it will release on PC and PS5, alongside a physical version on PlayStation’s platform.
