It Takes Two

It Takes Two to be Adapted for Film

One of the Top Games of 2021 and The Game Award’s Game of the Year will be adapted into new mediums, we’ve learned. Hazelight Studios is partnering with dj2 Entertainment to adapt It Takes Two.

“Creating the world and story in It Takes Two was so much fun for me and the team,” Hazelight’s creative director Josef Fares told Variety. “Since it has a strong narrative with many crazy characters and just as crazy co-op action moments, the potential is huge for a great adaption to film or television.”

The game sees former married couple Cody and May, the parents of Rose, transformed into living dolls. With the help of Dr. Hakim, the paid must navigate several magical landscapes to get home to their daughter, but not before learning to work together to get out of the situation at hand. It Takes Two is a co-op game by nature and cannot be completed unless working with another human.

“dj2 is honoured to partner with Josef, Oskar [Wolontis], and the incredible team at Hazelight Studios on the linear media adaptation of ‘It Takes Two,’” said dj2 CEO and founder Dmitri M. Johnson. “Just like the rest of the gaming world, we fell head-over-heels in love with Cody, May, Rose, Dr. Hakim and the imaginative fantasy universe Hazelight have created, and can’t wait to bring these characters -and this world- to life on the big and small screen.”

We’re finally seeing more and more video game adaptions coming from Hollywood. We’ve got Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, System Shock, The Witcher, Arcane, and much more to look forward to in the future.
