Shiny Shoe, the developers who worked on Monster Train are back with their next game, Inkbound.
The developers say Inkbound is a co-op roguelike RPG that combines elements found in Monster Train with new mechanics. Watching the trailer sells the connection to the studio’s previous game and showcases the colourful world Shiny Shoes is building with their next game.
“Inkbound takes players on a journey through procedurally generated storybook worlds, battling monsters that are set on unravelling the nature of reality itself,” said Andrew Krausnick, Creative Director at Shiny Shoe. “Players can dive in solo or party up via online co-oop in hybrid real-time/turn-based encounters. All the while, heroes become more powerful the deeper they progress in each roguelike run.”
Set in the world of The Atheneum, a world where all the stories ever told have been written. In this world, anything written in ink can come to life. The Binders will need to step and maintain the balance for the risk of these stories going rogue and causing trouble for the rest of the world.
Shiny Shoes says the gameplay was built with cooperative play in mind, enhancing the tactical elements as well. Binders can work together to debuff enemies and unleash some pretty lethal attacks too. In the case of Inkbound, co-op play is rewarded but also not required to enjoy the game.
“We cultivated an incredible community with Monster Train, so with Inkbound, we wanted to explore ways to approach that shared experience within a new genre. This is a living game, which provides us with the opportunity to nurture our community over the long term,” said Mark Cooke, CEO of Shiny Shoe. “Our goal is to give Binders new surprises to discover every week — whether it’s deadly new enemies, powerful loot, or even entirely new biomes. And that’s the mission statement of Shiny Shoe. We want to attract a base of players who love our games and find new reasons to keep playing them so that they’re remembered fondly 20 years from now.”
Inkbound is coming to Steam Early Access next year.
