Totally ignoring the unprofessional grifting from Blue Box Studios today, the internet is reacting positively to the most important news today: Idris Elba has been cast as Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
A few months ago the synopsis for the sequel to 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog leaked and set photos confirmed the appearance of both Tails and Knuckles in Paramount Pictures’ follow-up led by Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Jason Marsden as Tom, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Eggman. The film left us with the perfect setup for a sequel with Carrey’s Eggman stuck on an alien planet looking for revenge and a way back to Earth while Sonic found a home with his human friend Tom. Fan-favourite Tails was introduced in a post-credits scene appearing in our world looking for his friend Sonic.

Today on Twitter, Elba revealed his casting in one of the best ways imaginable and the internet reacted accordingly with everyone reacting positively to the casting. I’m not sure how the discussions came about for this role but I’m glad it did as Elba has always been a stellar actor delivering some excellent performances over the years. While there was some confusion about the news when it hit, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news with director Jeff Fowler and the majority of the cast returning for the second outing.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to arrive in theatres on April 8, 2022.
