Hyper Light Drifter Is Coming To Television

Polygon reports that a television series based on the 2016 RPG by Heart Machine – Hyper Light Drifter is in the works and it’s coming thanks to Adi Shanka and Alx Preston.

Shankar previously worked on the excellent Castlevania series on Netflix, as well as the upcoming series based on Devil May Cry and Assassin’s Creed. Hyper Light Drifter is the latest video game that’s becoming a television series.

Speaking to Polygon, Preston confirmed the news and both he and Shankar are currently searching for writers for their new collaboration while trying to assess how to proceed with a series based on Hyper Light Drifter.

“The difference between a series and a game is vast in a lot of ways,” Preston says, “Hyper Light as a game was pretty atmospheric and kind of overbearing at times. For a series, the question is: how do you sustain and keep your attention on a non-interactive run? Does it get really, really dark and serious? Does it have some levity?”

Shankar’s Bootleg Universe features properties like Power Rangers and The Punisher in a mature reimagining. I’d suggest checking his take if you’re interested but Shankar understands the medium and brought that knowledge to Castlavania on Netflix.
