Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn Has Sold Over 20 Million Copies

With just a week to go before Horizon Forbidden West is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Hermen Hulst has revealed a sales milestone for Horizon Zero Dawn.

Since launching in February 2017, the first game from Guerilla Games that wasn’t a Killzone entry has gone to sell 20 million copies across console and PC.

Late last year, Sony gave our Horizon Zero Dawn as part of its’ Play at Home initiative to help people stuck at home due to the ongoing pandemic we’re all facing.

For comparison, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima has gone on to sell over 8 million units last month — another Sony IP that has been critically and commercially received. It’s impressive seeing these numbers for these franchises when a lot of games these days are now sequels.

In my original review, I said “Horizon Zero Dawn might feel like a familiar romp through an open-world setting, but what Guerilla Games does with the established formula, is what really sets Horizon Zero Dawn as a compelling, engaging, and entertaining game. Combat feels fluid, Aloy moves swiftly, and everything meshes well together providing a premium experience. Guerilla Games has crafted their strongest title in the library and I can’t find myself wanting to leave the world they’ve created.”

Our review of the follow-up, Horizon Forbidden West will go live this Monday, February 14.
