Confirming the rumoured delay from earlier this summer, Mathijs de Jonge appeared alongside Geoff Keighley at Opening Night Live to announce Horizon Forbidden West was coming along and the game had entered the final stages of development.
“At that time, Horizon Forbidden West had just passed a major milestone and we had entered the final stage of development; on track, but a bit uncertain if we’d be able to polish the game to the level of quality we strive for.”
“It’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic; we have been adjusting to new workflows, protocols, and other challenges, while keeping our teams safe and prioritizing a healthy work/life balance.” says de Jonge.
The decision to move the game into early next year wasn’t easy for the team but it needed to happen. The team at Guerilla thanked fans for their patience and they are excited to see what players think of Aloy’s latest adventure.
In addition to Horizon Forbidden West getting a release date, its predecessor Horizon Zero Dawn was patched on PlayStation 5 via an Enhanced Performance Patch, bringing the game up to a targeted 60 frames per second. The update is live now and is free.
With just five months to go, Horizon Forbidden West launches on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 18, 2022.
