WB Games, Portkey Games label and developer Avalanche Software have announced the launch date of Hogwarts Legacy which confirms the game has been delayed out of its initial Holiday 2022 release window but looks like it won’t be too long of a wait as the upcoming open-world adventure Harry Potter prequel will now release this February.
The game’s first actual launch date is only confirmed for the PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions but did add in a tweet, news of the game’s release on Nintendo Switch “will be revealed soon.”
“The team is excited for you to play, but we need a little more time to deliver the best possible game experience,” the game’s Twitter account said.

Hogwarts Legacy players will be inserted into the shoes of a new student starting at Hogwarts in their fifth-year set sometime in the late 1800s. Well before characters like Harry Potter or Tom Riddle ever enrolled at the Wizardy school, although not confirmed it would be pretty convenient for Dumbledore to make an appearance in the game as the future Hogwarts headmaster was a student at the school during this time. Players will be able to learn spells, craft potions, and make friends while uncovering a “hidden truth of the wizarding world” in new and familiar locations.
While exciting news for Hogwarts Legacy, when it comes to this game there is a pretty big elephant in the room the game’s connection to series creator, J.K. Rowling who is not directly involved with the game’s creation but might profit from it. While the game has distanced itself from the author who nowadays is a controversial public figure over her “gender critical” anti-transgender comments in recent years which Gamespot has a fantastic feature on.
Hogwarts Legacy is set to launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 10th, 2023 with a Nintendo Switch version also in development and news on its availability will be “revealed soon.”
