High On Life's High On Knife

High On Life Expansion High On Knife Launches October 3

Squanch Games has revealed that High On Life‘s first expansion will launch next week, and it’s looking to set itself apart from its predecessor.

High on Knife’s narrative focus is on Knifey, who now has his chance to stab as the star of the downloadable content. The expansion includes a new planet with new characters, hazards, and surprises, Squanch Games reveals.

“We really leaned into horror with High On Knife, so it only made sense to launch it around Halloween,” says Squanch’s Studio Director Mike Fridley. “The DLC brings more goop, nastier body horror, creepier bosses, and all kinds of strange new stuff to the world we established with High On Life.”

High on Knife adds two new weapons to the mix, with Harper (Sarah Sherman), an ex-military pistol, coming to terms with her traumatic past. We’ll also meet B.A.L.L., a pinball-inspired gun you’ll use. Players must explore a creepy new sci-fi setting while being hunted by Mux, a mysterious new boss voiced by Gabourey Sidibe.

In our review, Dave writes, “High on Life strikes an outstanding balance throughout most of its adventure with some enjoyable shooting mechanics and dialogue. Sure, parts of the presentation became grating over time, but I pushed through. I knew that even if I was tired of hearing the same aggressive, profanity-filled tone from some characters, I was moments away from the game’s core enjoyment.

Especially if you’re an Xbox Game Pass member, I say it’s worth giving this game a shot for a few hours to see if it clicks with you. While the story and some of the characters became less of a selling point for me over time, I enjoyed the gameplay the more and more I played. Come for the writing and acting; stay for the goofy and unique gun fights.”
