PlayStation released a hefty video featuring a good look at gameplay for the upcoming racer Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.
In the video, we get a good look at Adventure Mode in which players complete a series of races. In a post over on the PlayStation Blog, Creative Director Thomas Wilson spoke about Adventure Mode and the legacy of the mode stemming from the original Crash Team Racing game by Naughty Dog.
Serving as a campaign, Crash and friends take on the alien Nitros Oxide, who boasts he is the fastest racer in the galaxy. Oxide comes to Earth, seeking the fastest racer on the planet, with the stipulation being if he wins, Earth becomes a parking lot. It’s definitely an interesting take but one that sounds exactly like something that belongs in the Crash universe.
“In bringing the adventure mode back, we knew we had to hit all the elements that made the original so special. The challenges are the same — there are trophy races, boss races, relic races, token races, and gem cups. The characters are back — choose from Crash, Coco, Cortex, Polar, Pura, Tiny or any of the other starting lineup characters you remember from the original. And the thrill of earning new characters (like Ripper Roo and Pinstripe Pontoroo) is still a huge part of the fun.”
“Also, players will now earn the boss characters immediately after they beat that boss, instead of after Gem Cups (which now unlock a new set of valuable prizes). This includes the ability to earn Nitros Oxide himself — though that is no easy task!’
Players can choose between playing Adventure Mode in one of two ways: Classic or Nitro-Fueled. The difference between the two is that in Classic, you can’t change your racer in the middle of Adventure Mode, whereas in Nitro-Fueled, you can.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is out on June 21, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
