GUNNAR

GUNNAR Fixes Itself A Cyberpunk 2077 Collab

After pledging itself to support Bethesda and Amazon with a second Fallout collab, California-based eyewear purveyors GUNNAR are embracing life as a video game glasses-making jack of all trades.

Today, they are partnering with Polish mega-studio CD Projekt Red on a new frame inspired by the fixer formerly known as Dexter DeShawn.

Now, GUNNAR can’t promise you won’t suffer the grizzly fate of being shot in the head and left to chill out next to a broken fridge in a garbage dump on the outskirts of Night City, but they can promise if you go out as a legendary fixer or merc, you’ll look stylish doing so.

The new Cyberpunk 2077 Dex frame is pretty much a one-to-one recreation of the once-famous fixer’s “wide load” sunglasses.

In our world, GUNNAR has paired what it calls an oversized quadrate shield-lens frame, made of a magnesium-aluminum alloy, with a futuristic, bombastic [my words] look that matches the man for whom they are named. I guess V gets a drink at the Afterlife, and Dex gets this!

While these frames look big and heavy, I’ve always been a huge fan of how light GUNNAR’s composite alloy builds sit on your face, and these look to be no different — size be damned.

GUNNAR is offering the Cyberpunk 2077 Dex in three of their lens configurations — Amber, Amber Max, and Sun.

GUNNAR’s stock “G-Shield” lens claims to block blue light naturally and uses magnification to help manage digital eye strain, which is important, as we aren’t using implants with in-retinal information feeds…yet. It is worth pointing out that while GUNNAR’s lenses do make a noticeable difference when looking at screens, the onboard close-up magnification can be harder for us nearsighted folks to get used to.

Those looking for authenticity and/or a cosplay edge will likely go for the Amber Max, as it gets closest to Dex’s futuristic sunglasses.

While it is too early to review the Cyberpunk 2077 Dex, I am saddened to see GUNNAR pull away from offering the metal cases it has in the past with its Fallout collabs, or the leather cases it offered with the past CD Projekt partnership for The Witcher.  In both of these cases, the cases and accompanying accoutrements featured the best of the nerdy Easter eggs. However, the Cyberpunk 2077 Dex comes with a puffy bag featuring the Cyberpunk 2077 text logo, a microfibre cleaning cloth with the collab logo, and a detailed map of Night City that even includes the NCART metro line — the only thing in Night City less reliable than Dexter DeShawn!

Don’t feel let down by GUNNAR, though! These frames come with a 12-month warranty and are available now!
