The mind behind the Grand Theft Auto series and RockStar Games co-founder, Dan Houser, has announced his new studio, Absurd Ventures, a media company focused on creating a new IP across all platforms and formats.
This means that Absurd Ventures’ debut IP might not just pop up in games but other familiar mediums we interact with constantly, including live-action/animation productions, books, graphic novels, and scripted podcasts. The studio’s goal is to build narrative worlds, create characters, and write stories for various genres, regardless of the medium it’s telling its approach to narrative.
“We are building Absurd Ventures to create new universes and to tell great stories, wherever and however we can,” Dan Houser said in a press release.
It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Houser’s name pop up following his departure from Rockstar Games in 2020 after an attended break the previous year, with his last writing contribution to the Grand Theft Auto studio being Red Dead Online. Speaking of which, Grand Theft Auto wasn’t the only series Houser worked on during his time with RockStar Games as he also wrote and executive produced Bully, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire and the Red Dead Redemption games.
