After almost six years, Sony announced that Gran Turismo Sport‘s online servers will go offline starting next year on January 31st, with the distribution of purchasable add-ons being removed from the game on December 1st.
The shutdown of the servers beyond the 2024 date means that Gran Turismo Sport players will no longer have access to Community, Open Lobby, Sport Mode, Quick Match, Seasonal Events, and other online features. Additionally, custom liveries of vehicles, helmets, or racing suits will no longer be accessible as the Discovery feature requires an internet connection.
“We would like to thank the many users of the Gran Turismo Sport online service since its first launch in 2017. From here on, we will continue to further improve the online services for the currently available title Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5,” Sony said in a statement on Gran Turismo‘s website.
For trophy hunters, this also means that Gran Turismo Sport‘s online-only trophies will no longer be earnable after January 31st, 2024, so get them while you can because there won’t be any way to get them after the servers close down.
Gran Turismo Sport first launched on PS4 consoles on October 17th, 2017 and has been a pretty good run for the game. While we haven’t gotten any new games from Sony’s racing franchise this year, PlayStation Studios’ film and TV division did launch a Gran Turismo movie last month; that honestly wasn’t that bad as far as video game movies go.
