This new trailer premiered during DC FanDome, introducing Penguin, giving us a better look at the Court of Owls and just how dangerous the mysterious organization really is.
This secret society has been running Gotham for decades from behind the scenes and is made up of the wealthiest families in the city. Warner Bros. Games Montréal returns to helm development, having served as the lead studio for 2013’s Batman Arkham Origins and will now head up the series following the death of Batman. In Gotham Knights, players take up the mantle of Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood, and Batgirl who are left to protect the city.
Gotham Knights is a bit of a departure from the Batman Arkham games, and isn’t in the same universe but will feature a “dynamic and interactive” open-world Gotham City. Last year we got several minutes of gameplay that gave us a great look at what the gameplay would be like, as well as introducing Mr. Freeze, who will be a thorn in the side of the Bat-family.
WB Games Montreal has gone on record to state they had to rework the combat system for solo and co-op. The team will have access to a headquarters known as the Belfry, which appears to take its influence from Barbara Gordon’s Watchtower that has appeared in various DC titles over the years as well as in Batman: Arkham Knight. They will need to use its info and outdated tech, as well as the Batcycle in order to investigate the five boroughs of Gotham to stop iconic villains and investigate the much-loved Court of Owls from Scott Snyder’s comic run of the same title.
Gotham Knights will launch in 2022.
