God of War Ragnarök Sells 5.1 Million Units

God of War Ragnarök is officially upon us and critical reception has been largely positive. It should come as no surprise that the latest game from Santa Monica Studios is selling well then.

Per PlayStation, we now know that God of War Ragnarök is the fastest-selling first-party launch in PlayStation history. In its first week at retail, Kratos and Atreus’ latest adventure to the end of the world has shifted a whopping 5.1 million units combined between physical and digital copies.

Previously this record was held by Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2selling 4 million copies in its first three days. It was also recently revealed that the soft reboot of God of War introduced in 2018 has gone on to sell 23 million copies across PlayStation consoles and PC.

God of War sold nearly 3 million units before hitting 5 million units later in the same month in 2018.

These sales numbers surely mean we will most likely see more adventures unfold in the future. For now, though, Santa Monica Studios is “spread out on a lot of different things,” said Cory Barlog to LA Times last week.
