Since launching in July, Sucker Punch’s excellent and gripping tale about the invasion of Tsushima has passed five million sales, we’ve learned. Sony Interactive Entertainment and confirmed the news with the New York Times, as the newspaper profiled Sony in the lead up to the PlayStation 5’s launch today.
“Sony attributes much of its success over the last console generation to the popularity of its exclusive game franchises, including stalwarts like God of War (more than 51 million copies sold) and newcomers like Ghost of Tsushima, with more than five million copies sold since its debut in July.”
In its first month, Ghost of Tsushima sold 1.9 million digital copies, making it the fastest-selling new PlayStation IP. This was previously held by Horizon Zero Dawn, selling through the same amount in two months. It’s clear that the expectations were met and the game has continued to thrive with post-launch support, including the new Legends update.
