With the launch of the PlayStation 5 just around the corner, we take a look at some of its leading titles.
Playstation’s next-generation console, the PS5, is just around the corner, and many dedicated PlayStation users are eagerly anticipating its release. They have been given a taster of what to expect with the company’s upcoming release trailer. It shows a slick ocean of beads manipulating its form until it finally solidifies into the new console.
It looks every bit the part. Familiar yet unexpected. Sony’s CEO, Jim Ryan, has said that while the console will be backwardly compatible with all PS4 titles – in many cases with improved playability due to an increased frame-rate – it will also be quantifiably different. According to him, the next-generation console should offer features and benefits not accessible in older models.
The PlayStation 5 will be more powerful than the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X. These half-step consoles offered more power within the same console generation, but the PS5 is a step up from that changing the possibilities of gaming at a fundamental level. The central processing unit and graphics processing unit are built using chips not yet released, meaning the PS5 will be top of the range on release and for some time to come.
It’s not surprising that game designers are keen to develop titles for the new system. 25 games have already been confirmed for the PS5 with many more in the background. It’s time to mark them in your calendars.
Grand Theft Auto V
This action-packed tale of three very different criminals making their way in the fictional city of Los Santos has sold over 130 million copies worldwide and lands on the new PS5 system in 2021. The latest version of the game will be modified for PS5 to take advantage of the system’s powerful hardware. Expect technical improvement, visual upgrades, and performance enhancements. GTA V on the PS5 is likely to be more beautiful and responsive than ever before.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Fans of previous Spider-Man games won’t be disappointed with this latest addition to the cannon. Speculation had it that the title would be a continuation of the computer game legacy – a sequel or spinoff to such titles as Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. As it turns out this is to be a stand-alone game. There will be a focus on a new character along with new gameplay features. Technical improvements have been added which will offer a noticeable difference from the PS4 gameplay – near-instantaneous travel across Marvel’s NY city is just one of them.

Gran Turismo 7
The latest offering from Polyphony is the next version of its popular racing car series Gran Turismo 7. There is no information about a release date yet but there is a trailer showcasing its special graphics and familiar tracks. Cinematic shots from inside the cockpit of certain cars demonstrate the capabilities of the PS5 hardware to bring a sense of reality to the world. It’s likely to be a significant step up from Gran Turismo Sport releases in 2017.
