Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 Kicks Off With My Hero Academia, The Witcher, And DOOM
Yesterday saw the conclusion of Fortnite Chapter 3 with the Fracture event splintering the island before Chapter 4 created an entirely new playable island. For those players who tuned in at 4 PM ET to watch the event unfold as it happened, they were witness to the island being reassembled.
On the Epic Games blog, the studio revealed that with Fortnite Chapter 4, Unreal Engine 5.1 is powering the battle royale as it introduces a leap in visual fidelity. This means when you boot up and play next, you’ll see Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, and Temporal Super Resolution working to make Fortnite look incredible.
Nanite focuses on highly-detailed geometry, specifically buildings and landscapes. Lumen provides high-quality ray-traced surfaces and real-time global illumination at 60 FPS. Virtual Shadow Maps focuses on highly-detailed shadowing and Temport Super Resolution is an upgrade over Temporal Anti-Aliasing giving you high-quality visuals at a high-quality framerate.
The jump to Unreal Engine 5.1 also means players will now have access to dirt bikes, rolling in a snowball, and being able to launch into the sky and attack from above. Chapter 4 also introduces Hurdles and Reality Augments — the former allows you to jump over objects at knee length while the latter are temporary buffs lasting the duration of the match.
There are also new outfits in the Item Shop and Battle Pass.
