Last week, we were told a Dead Island 2 Showcase would air on December 6 at 3 PM ET. Today Dambuster Studio and Deep Silver delivered on their word and dropped our first look at gameplay for next year’s sequel to Dead Island.
The showcase delivered some gory, brutal kills that utilized a mix of live-action and gameplay interspersed in between the showcase. From the looks of it, the action and abilities have been dialled up from previous entries and Dead Island 2 is looking like it takes a lot of inspiration from other entries in the genre.
Moving the action to Los Angeles seems like a great idea. As much as I liked the fictional island of Banoi, moving to a real city now allows players to explore dozens of real landmarks while taking on the walking dead. The live-action segment pictures three individuals heading to a mansion in Los Angeles which also happens to have a copy of Dead Island 2 readily available to play.
The eye-catching ‘Welcome to HELL-A’ demo shown during the segment had some interesting mechanics on display. For starters, there are a ton of weapons you’ll be able to pick up and modify to make zombies nothing more than fodder. It also looks like the FLESH system will make a big splash when it launches. For those who don’t know what this means, Dambuster Studios developed the Fully Locational Evisceration System for Humanoids system to make battling zombies as gory as possible.
Characters Jacob and Amy mentioned Dead Island 2 will feature Alexa Game Control allowing players to quickly perform in-game actions using their voice. This feature will be launching in Dead Island 2 for Xbox and PC, for English in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
The video also revealed more about Dead Island 2’s HELL-A Edition. This package includes the Season Pass, a steel book, a Venice Beach travel map, Dead Island 2 pins and patch, six unique slayer cards, and a handful of bonus weapons – Sam B’s Pistol, Abuela’s Ashes Mace, Eye Opener, and Homewrecker.
If you pre-order Dead Island 2 you’ll receive the Memories of Banoi pack that includes the Banoi War Club and Banoi War Bat, two weapons that celebrate the original game, and a skill card.
